Call To Action

When you have diabetes requiring insulin treatment, your body can no longer rely on its own regulation to keep your blood glucose in a healthy range. Your glucose levels go up and down depending not only on how many units of insulin you take or what medications you are on, but also on what you eat and drink, your physical activity, stress, illness, hormones, and many other daily variables.

Sometimes these factors create a pattern you can easily see. Other times, it may be challenging to understand what’s happening. When you’re unsure what’s going on in the background, it may be tricky to decide how much insulin to take, what to eat, or whether it is safe to drive, work, sleep or exercising.

Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical nutrition therapy for diabetes is an evidence-based treatment process delivered by a registered dietitian specialising in diabetes. It works alongside your medical treatment, bridging the gap between your medical treatment plan and your unique nutrition needs, food preferences and lifestyle. During individual consultations, the process includes assessment, nutrition diagnosis, intervention (including education and counselling), and ongoing monitoring and follow-up.

Diabetes Life Space is a place where you can find individual consultations for medical nutritional therapy and group workshops to build your diabetes self-management skills.

I believe by combining your own life insights, appropriate diabetes treatment, and personalised medical nutrition therapy, we can work together towards:

  • Learning to interpret what your glucose data tells you.
  • Establishing a healthy eating pattern to support your overall health.
  • Enjoying what you eat and creating more flexibility in your meals and snacks.
  • Feeling more confident in managing your glucose levels, exercising with more confidence, enjoying the hobbies you love, and being more present with the people who matter to you.

Zhuoshi Zhang

MDiet, PhD, NZRD

Zhuoshi is a New Zealand trained and registered dietitian specialising in diabetes. She was born and raised in Chengdu, China, a city known for its delicious food and relaxed way of life, and now lives in beautiful coastal city Auckland, New Zealand. After a year working as an inpatient dietitian, she began working in specialist diabetes clinics in 2014, helping people understand their condition and nutritional needs, and build their diabetes self-management skills through one-on-one consultations and group teaching.

Alongside her clinical work, Zhuoshi completed her PhD in 2018, researching online diabetes nutrition education. She wanted to explore ways to provide diabetes care to more people when regular diabetes clinics were already at capacity. In 2026, she created Diabetes Life Space, bringing together her knowledge and experience to offer one-on-one consultations, online workshops, and a community space that is coming soon.

When Zhuoshi isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son. You might find them visiting the zoo, playing at the playground, painting, gardening, or hiking.
